New study on photosynthetic sea slugs published in the ORE platform

A new study by the MP2Lab-Kleptoslug Team on the photophysiology of the sea slug Elysia viridis was published in the Open Research Europe (ORE) platform. The study compares sea slugs fed with two alternative chloroplast donors and shows that not all photoprotective mechanisms present in the original chloroplasts are maintained in the animal cells. The study concludes that functionality does not depend solely on the origin of the stolen chloroplasts but also on the degree of compatibility with the animal species. ORE is an open access publishing platform for the publication of research stemming from Horizon 2020, Horizon Europe and/or Euratom funding. Invited peer review takes place openly after publication, and articles that pass peer review are indexed in a number of bibliographic databases and repositories.
