Raquel Miguel, research fellow of the NASCADIA project – Natural photonic nanostructures: from implications in diatoms towards next generation nanobiodevices, has won the Best Student Poster Presentation Award at the 15th European Diatom Meeting in North Macedonia. The award-winning poster, based on Raquel’s MSc thesis, was entitled Functionalizing three-dimensional hollow diatom frustules obtained from cultivated biomass: A new platform for drug delivery applications. The work describes innovative methodologies and significant findings in exploring diatom silica shells in sustainable technology.
