Two new MP2Lab projects funded

MP2Lab researchers are leading two new projects funded in the Call for Exploratory Projects in All Scientific Domains 2023 of the Foundation for Science and Technology. The project TraceAlgae – TRACEability of edible macroALGAE using Compound-Specific Isotope Analysis, led by Paulo Cartaxana, will try to validate a method to trace the geographical origin of edible macroalgae using stable isotope ratio signatures. Traceability and origin certification of food products is a priority to safeguard public health and ensure culturing according to good practices. The project DMi4Shrimp – Diatom Microshell encapsulation devices for Shrimp aquaculture, led by Anthony Moreira, aims to further develop a new microencapsulation technology based on diatom biosilica frustules as the main architectural scaffold. This new technology will be further developed, designed and tested, for increased delivery efficiencies of bioactive molecules to farmed shrimp.  Projects are aim to start January 2025.
